Dealing with the Layers dialog box

Figure 3-1 shows the Layers dialog box with its two sample layers active. The sample layers are created in Chapter 4.

To adjust the brightness of an image, in most programs, you simply change the overall brightness of an image. In Photoshop, this adjustment can be made through the Levels tool, which enables you to adjust the brightness, contrast, and color of an image as a single adjustment.

**Figure 3-1:** Layers dialog box with sample layers.

The Layers dialog box, as shown in Figure 3-1, offers many tools for dealing with layers. The following list contains a brief introduction to most of these tools:

**Layer palette:** Enables you to access and manage layers. See the "Picking and Unpicking Layers" sidebar earlier in this chapter.

**Duplicate:** Duplicates a layer but does not enable you to edit it. You can use it to copy a layer so that you can use another layer or combine two layers.

**Reveal All:** Helps you to understand the hierarchy of your layers by showing all layers within the layer hierarchy.

**Zoom:** When you zoom in or out, Photoshop automatically adjusts the proportion of the layer in relation to the image. This tool enables you to change the size of a layer, change the layer's position within the image, or change the proportion of a layer relative to the image.

**Lock:** Enables you to lock a layer so that you can't accidentally change it.

**Erase:** Deletes the selected layer.

**Create a New Layer:** Creates a new layer that is visible in the Layers palette.

**Merge Visible:** Merges all the layers below the selected layer into a new layer.

Most of the tools in the Layers dialog box are dynamic and have

While Photoshop Elements is an almost completely free version of Photoshop, it is not free in the way Photoshop is free. The image editing software is not all there is to Photoshop Elements. In terms of features, there is no function to link two objects together or use a large number of filters in one operation. Instead, Photoshop Elements relies on advanced actions that link more than one object to another and support complex actions to automate repetitive tasks.

What is Photoshop Elements?

Photoshop Elements contains about 7.5 million images that are organized into 14 categories and 43 sub-categories, and covers a wide range of topics such as:

Any image editing software has icons, menus and toolbars. Some of these are common to all photo-editing software and some unique to Photoshop Elements. You can learn the functions of Photoshop Elements icons by reading the following descriptions. If you have downloaded and installed Photoshop Elements, you can refer to this user manual as well as the Photoshop Elements main window.

1. Tools and Utilities

The Photoshop Elements main toolbar has the most commonly used functions in a basic photo editor. Edit Tools lets you carry out most basic edits to your photo and Image Toolbar gives you access to the editing tools such as cropping, resizing, colorizing, color correction, enhancing and sharpening.

The Layers toolbar contains the tools to create and manipulate layers for any image. The tools are divided into two groups, Frame and Object tools.

Frame tools includes the most commonly used commands such as perspective, flip left-right or top-bottom, frame, use as background, image resize, image rotation and perspective; Object tools are commands to crop and rotate an object within an image.

The Expert panels and F-Panel tools let you control specific functions in Photoshop Elements. The panels are floating on top of the original image and they contain edit tools in Photoshop Elements’ editing menu. The f-panel includes tools to copy, delete, combine and the like.

Q:

How to find max and min of this function?

$f(x,y)=\frac{\sqrt{x^2+y^2}}{\sqrt{x^2+(\sin x)^2}}$
How to find maximal and minimal values?

A:

$$f(x,y)=\frac{\sqrt{x^2+y^2}}{\sqrt{x^2+(\sin x)^2}}=\frac{x}{\sin x}$$
Prove if $$\sin x eq 0$$
then the maximal value is:
$\mathrm{max}=x$
So if $$\sin x=0$$ then $$\mathrm{max}=0$$

Q:

Applying while statement to a block of code

I have the following code:
private void button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
int i = 0;
while (i!= 100)
{
if (theDirectory[i]!= null)
{
string[] names = theDirectory[i].GetFileSystemInfos();
string[] names2 = theDirectory[i].GetFileSystemInfos2();
}
i++;
}

I want to prevent the while statement from being done, since I am only interested in the first 100 elements.
Is there a way to apply the while statement to only the first 100 elements, but not all of them?

A:

You can add a check before calling GetFileSystemInfos() that returns false if there is no more data.
while (i!= 100)
{
if (theDirectory[i]!= null)
{
if (!theDirectory[i].GetFileSystemInfos().Any())
{
string[] names = theDirectory[i].GetFileSystemInfos();

Support the campaign to stop violence and war

“Turning away from war as a way of life is not an easy thing for us to do, because we are a violent society. War is how we, the West, solve problems and rid the world of evil. Those who do not understand this have a problem with our way of life, and when we are in a state of war, it is imperative for us to maintain our way of life.”

Those are the words of veteran Western journalist Joanna Kakissis.

In her book on WW2, Kakissis writes how ‘when the bombing stops, so do wars.’

As Kakissis explains, “Within wars, there always existed moral forces, people who showed up and took action. They were hated and called ‘cowards’ by the majority in war, but by doing so, they acted as heroes, thereby creating a new civilisation.”

There are an estimated 9-11 million veterans in the US, including 2.3 million who are women.

Those who lived through World War II were the first generation who endured the prospect of war, and they saw it as a necessary evil for the protection of the free world, for freedom, democracy, and human rights.

That generation left the door open for a new generation.

Whether we like it or not, this century is no different.

Today we are witnessing the rise of new religions and fundamentalisms, as well as a new wave of extremism, nihilism, and reactionary governments looking to gain the upper hand in their conflict and conflicts.

What happens is that young people in the West are influenced by the things that they see, on TV, on internet, and, unfortunately, are pulled towards the majority as they get sucked into the vortex of the extreme right and the extreme left and radical politics.

Please donate to help guarantee our Human Rights.

Since 2016, with over twenty years of experience in military journalism, Kakissis has witnessed the rise of the extreme right and left.

In the past year she has witnessed the rise of first the extreme right and now the extreme left in Europe.

Today it is Russia, China, North Korea, Iran, Syria, Iraq, and Venezuela; tomorrow it could be us.

These regimes are seeking to control the minds of people, such as Kakissis points out in her book, with propaganda and
